Happy WORLD Read Aloud DAY!!!
I had no idea, until I logged into Twitter, that today was World Read Aloud Day. My local news station didn’t make mention of it, Good Morning America didn’t make mention of it, but thank God for hash tags because they’ve quickly become the grassroots movement for news coverage.
I’m sure when my mother took me to get my FIRST library card
when I was 4 years old she had no idea the ripple effect it would have in my adult life.
Now, in my mid twenties I look back and I see that
Eloise Greenfield, Beverly Cleary, Alice Walker, Robert Frost, Maya Angelou, Elie Wiesel, and others
would shape my imagination, appeal to my conscious, and inspire me to write.
The point is, you NEVER know when one small act can change a life. That is why we have to do all we can to make reading and writing one of our TOP priorities. Everyone, regardless of gender and socioeconomic class, deserves the privilege to READ.
Illiteracy STILL plagues 793 MILLION human beings.
To help change that pick up a book and READ. Find a child, an adult, someone elderly, a friend,
a stranger, a co-worker, ANYONE and read!
The world CAN change, we just have to care enough to help it along its way.
